Eugene Odum Environmental Grants
The Steering Committee of the annual GREENFEST observance
is making available grants of $200 to help students in
Clarke, Oconee,
Madison, Jackson and Oglethorpe counties plan and carry out
innovative environmental projects. Grants may be awarded to
classes at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Projects can take the form of:
· An exhibit or demonstration
· An activity
· Any other effort that helps students increase their
knowledge of
environmental issues and develop a sense of responsibility
for solving
environmental problems.
Projects can deal with environmental issues on a local,
national or global level. Examples of concerns that
might be addressed include: land and water conservation,
solid waste management, pollution control, wetlands
preservation, or wildlife protection. Proposals on water
conservation are especially encouraged.
Proposals for grants must describe the project and how it
will be conducted, explain how money will be used,
and indicate possible benefits or results. This is not
meant to be taxing or time-consuming for teachers or
students.
The idea is what is most important here. See back for
proposal form.
The purpose of the grants is to help youngsters gain a
greater understanding of environmental issues, and
proposals will be judged in part on the degree of student
involvement in planning and implementing projects.
Another important judging factor will be creative ideas for
sharing with the larger community during
GREENFEST 2008 (the full month of April 2008) and the
knowledge and insights gained through the project.
· Proposals should be typed double space and no more than 5
pages long.
· The deadline for submitting proposals is Monday, February
11, 2008.
Previous recipients are encouraged to apply again.
· Grants will be announced in March, and projects should be
carried out during GREENFEST 2008.
